Who's Praying: More than 450 people have signed up to participate in the Prayer Vigil organized by St. John's Lutheran in Atlanta during Pr. Bradley Schmeling's disciplinary hearing.

Who's Not: Why is there no prayer vigil organized by the Southeast Synod or by the ELCA? Why aren't Presiding Bishop Hanson or Bishop Ron Warren willing to declare publicly that they are in prayer with the people of St. John's Church in Atlanta? The policy really is the problem not only because it excludes from the ministry people whom God has called, but because it creates barriers among people and communities who ought to be able to pray together. Thanks to the policy, in stead of prayer in common, we have closed trials and rumors of gag orders. Does no one on Higgins Road understand that this is wrong?

Memo to Goodsoil: Need a resolution for this year's Churchwide Assembly? Here's one proposal:
Whereas disciplinary proceedings against clergy partnered in same-sex relationships do not serve the stated purpose of this church (ELCA Constitution, Chapter 4)
Therefore, be it resolved that the office of the secretary shall make a full disclosure to the Church Council of the cost of each such disciplinary proceeding, and that this disclosure shall be part of the public record of the Church Council's meetings,
And be it finally resolved that annually the ELCA shall spend no more than $50,000 (including the fair market value of any donations of time or other gifts in kind) to pursue such disciplinary actions.
